Greek regulator reviews player verification as online gambling drives revenue growth

By The Weekly Edge desk ·

Greece’s regulated gambling sector generated €1.558bn in gross gaming revenue in the first half of 2026, up 8% year on year, according to Hellenic Gaming Commission figures. Online gambling contributed 88% of the increase. Greek state revenue rose 14.4% to €627.3m over the same period. 12

The commission is pursuing a single player certification system and reviewing online identification and VIP programmes. Reports said it requested information from all 18 licensed operators, including programme rules, player numbers and benefits. The information requests cover VIP customers alongside the regulator’s work on player verification. 34

The commission also invited public-sector staff to apply for 40 posts in its Gaming Inspectors Corps through secondments, with applications due by 6 November. The recruitment invitation accompanied a week of reported work on player checks and VIP practices, alongside figures showing online gambling’s contribution to revenue growth. 5342
